Good evening Dear Members, Friends and Guests,
Welcome to Hadassah-Israel’s 2025 Special Gifts Gala. Before we begin, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to Anne Rothenberg, Chair of this wonderful event.
Tonight, as we gather for this very special Fundraising Gala, we do more than raise essential funds for a meaningful cause—we continue a legacy. A legacy of courage, compassion, education, and action. A legacy begun by a woman whose vision still shapes our work and hearts today: Henrietta Szold.
Henrietta Szold was not born into power or privilege—but into purpose. From a young age, she was driven by a love of learning and a deep sense of responsibility to uplift others. At a time when women’s voices were often silenced, Henrietta made hers heard—through her teaching, her writing, and her relentless commitment to the Jewish people.
She believed in the power of education—not just for information, but for transformation. She taught English to new immigrants, trained teachers in Palestine, and translated texts that opened doors of knowledge. But more than that, she taught by example. She taught us what it means to lead with heart, to care deeply, and to act boldly. She saw the sick and said, “Let us bring healing.” She saw the children and said, “Let us bring hope.” She saw injustice and said, “Let us bring change.”
Her message was clear then—and it is clear now: We are all responsible for one another.
And tonight, as we honor these incredible women—pillars of our own organization—we see Henrietta’s spirit in their work. They, too, have taught us through action. They, too, have stood strong in difficult times. And like Henrietta, they have carried our mission forward—not with loud fanfare, but with steadfast dedication.
Our gala is not just a celebration—it’s a commitment. A commitment to continue supporting healing, education, and community through the programs that make a difference in people’s lives. Henrietta Szold taught us that every person matters. Every act of giving, of helping, of building—matters.
When we make the L’Chaim this evening, let us raise our glasses, raise our voices, and raise the support needed for the Gandel Rehabilitation at Hadassah Hospital Mt. Scopus.
Thank you—and may all of our hostages and soldiers come home, and may we continue to have peace.
Rivkah Cooper
